National Coach Development Conference

Re-calibrating Coach Development: Focusing on understanding self, our impact on others and how this can shape quality coaching and wellbeing

So much focus in coach development is on the technical and tactical skills of performance. Coaches seek to become experts in the discipline of their sport, seeking to a competitive advantage in training and competition strategy, opposition analysis, physical preparation, skill execution and so on.

One of the challenges of Australia’s sporting industry’s is the responsibility it has for creating environments that positively influence athlete wellbeing and engagement. For this to be achieved, coaches as key leaders, need the skills and knowledge to enable them to become experts in the interpersonal and intrapersonal domains and a strong understanding as to why this is important.

The Conference will comprise presentations from industry and round table discussions, designed to focus on sport’s coach development strategies on how and why a coach can gain a greater understanding of themselves and the impact they have on others and how and why this contributes to quality coaching and wellbeing.

At the end of the workshop, we will develop a framework to provide sports with strategies as to HOW to embed an interpersonal skills approach to the delivery of coach development.
