High Performance Coach & Strategist
Michael Poulton specialises in Performance Development. He has extensive experience in the AFL, Olympic Sports and more broadly in education. Whilst describing himself as a Teacher, Michael has particular interest in coaching and the dynamics of performance development.
He currently consults to the Gold Coast Suns Football Club in the areas of coach development and high performance leadership. Previously he was the Elite Performance and Development Manager at the Geelong Football Club and for four seasons was the AFL Competition & Stakeholder Manager.
Michael’s role at the AFL was instrumental in designing and delivering the elite AFL Senior Coach program and the AFL High Performance Advisory Group. He continues to work with coaches and clubs to help identify and develop the skills to enhance the learning and performance.
Prior to entering the AFL, Michael was the National Coaching Manager for Athletics Australia and gained considerable international experience across four Olympic Games and five World University Games. He was the Australian team’s Chef de Mission for the 2001 and 2003 Universiade. Further international experience was gained whilst teaching at Boston University and the University of Victoria (Canada).
Michael has a Masters Degree in Education (Coach Education), is an active hockey coach hockey and has extensive experience as a track coach.
