Head of Parks Services – Auckland Council (NZ)
Mark is the Head of Parks Services for the Auckland Council, with a service portfolio network of over 4,000 parks, including 800 sports fields, and a unit of over 220 dedicated parks professionals. He is an experienced and respected senior leader in parks and recreation, with an industry background of over 30 years.
Mark is a champion and advocate for sustainability outcomes in the parks management environment, and the important contribution this makes to urban livability.
Mark is also a Board Director and currently the Chair for Recreation Aotearoa (formerly the New Zealand Recreation Association), as well as being a member of the World Urban Parks Healthy Parks Healthy Cities Committee. He is an Accredited Recreation Professional (ARPro), an Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia IS Accredited Professional, and a Certified Parks Professional – International . In 2018 Mark received the Recreation Aotearoa Fellow Award, which recognizes outstanding and sustained contribution to the purpose, aims and work of the association. In 2019 Mark was the recipient of the Recreation Aotearoa Ian Galloway Memorial Cup, which recognises excellence and outstanding personal contribution to the wider parks industry.
