Alastair Cox is Facilities and Quality Programme Manager at the International Hockey Federation (FIH). An internationally recognised expert in the testing of sports surfaces and the setting of standards for sports facilities, his current responsibilities include leading the federation’s drive to maximise the potential synthetic turf fields bring to the sport. This includes providing guidance to national and state hockey associations; setting the FIH’s Hockey Turf and Field Standards, that define the quality, safety and performance properties hockey surfaces need at the different levels of the game; approving hockey surfaces and certifying fields; and coordinating the FIH’s research and facilities development programmes.
